Palm Harbor man dies in ATV crash at Redneck Yacht Club August 26, 2015 – 12:39 pm

A 20-year-old man died Saturday, May 24, 2015 in anA 20-year-old Palm Harbor man died Saturday in an ATV crash at the Redneck Yach Club in Punta Gorda.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Nicholas Kirk died on the scene and Marlayna Gomez, 19, suffered serious injuries when their ATV ran between two swamp buggies on a dirt road.

Troopers say one swamp buggy was towing another northbound when Kirk's ATV tried to pass between them.

Kirk struck the tow strap between the swamp buggies and Gomez, of Clearwater, fell from the ATV as it passed under the strap.

Kirk was pronounced dead by Charlotte County EMS. Gomez was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with "incapacitating injuries", a report says.

None of the occupants of the swamp buggies, all North Fort Myers residents, were injured. None of the vehicles involved were damaged.

No charges are being filed at this time.
