When Kelsey Collins (27 and a social worker) and Daniel LaLonde (28 and a physician) got engaged, they knew that their mutual love for all things Michigan just had to be incorporated into their wedding day. “Our intended theme was summer elegance and ‘pure Michigan, ’” says Kelsey. In fact, the night Daniel popped the question, the University of Michigan’s basketball team advanced to the NCAA’s Final Four (that’s gotta be a good sign, right?). The Bay Harbor Yacht Club on Lake Michigan was chosen as the exquisite beachfront venue, and cocktail hour took place on the balcony of the yacht club. The couple created a specialty cocktail, called LaLonde Lemonade, for their reception. “Our reception was beautifully decorated and exactly what we envisioned, thanks to our fantastic florist and wedding planner, ” Kelsey says. The couple took their wedding photos in the morning, before the ceremony, leaving extra time for them to enjoy the reception with their family and friends. Another awesome highlight of the day? “When the Jerry Ross Band played the University of Michigan fight song, ” says Kelsey. The school is the couple’s alma mater. Of course, the band played a wide range of songs the entire time, “and the dance floor was crowded all night, ” says Kelsey. After all that planning, the couple escaped to beautiful Hawaii for a lovely eight-day honeymoon.
